Some Pretty Interesting Links
Below are a few of Richard's current favorite websites. The list is updated regularly, so be sure to check back once in a while. Please let me know if you'd like to link your website to this one, or have other locations you'd like to see listed here...
www.bigcatrescue.com I've been intrigued by jaguars for many years and have written several articles about them. In 2009, Yale University Press will publish book on the subject (check it out at The Jaguar's Shadow: Searching for a Mythic Cat). The Big Cat website has excellemt background information on the Western Hemisphere's biggest felid, with some nice pictures and additional lore about other large cats.
This site is maintained by Panthera, which is among the most aggressive groups trying to help jaguars. There's lots of terrific material about large cat conservation here, as well as great photos and links to various jaguar-related pages within the rest of the excellent Panthera website.
Anyone can conduct research on current events, just like a journalist, by using this portal that is a user-friendly gateway to dozens of valuable news and research resources.
www.silvercity.org This if the official website for Silver City and Grant County, NM. Sure, it's full of promotional material, of course, but it also provides (largely) accurate information and helpful pictures about the place I live. If you're curious about what it's like to live in a little old mining town in southwestern New Mexico, check this out.
My passion for the history, culture, and architecture of Silver City finds an outlet through the guided walking tours I provide by appointment. This website describes my services and includes some interesting vintage photos of the town I call home.
High Country News is a biweekly newspaper about western states, with an environment orientation. The website is great, was significantly upgraded in spring 2009, and has fascinating some postings that never make into the print version.
