Insiders' Guide: Santa Fe
Summary of Insiders' Guide: Santa Fe
The third edition of Insiders' Guide: Santa Fe
was published in winter 2003 and again in fall 2005 by Globe-Pequot Press
(Guilford, CT) and is one of the most
comprehensive guides to the most intriguing city
in the American Southwest. This book is densely
packed with over 300 pages of information, photos,
and maps. Although designed primarily for the
traveler, Insiders' Guide is also ideal for
anyone relocating to Santa Fe, as it contains
indepth reports on local schools, employment
trends, retirement services, health care,
neighborhoods, and other background information.
Richard did the updating for both the third and fourth editions with
award-winning writer Nicky Leach. Anne
Hillerman (novelist Tony's daughter) and Tamar
Stieber (a Pulitzer Prize winner) wrote much of
the original text for the third edition, for which Richard took most of the
photos. The earlier edition is now available at a heavily discounted price directly from Richard, despite the fact that the basic information remains about 90 percent accurate.

Excerpt from Insiders' Guide: Santa Fe, 4th edition
Long before 'cultural tourism' became a catch
phrase, the arts and culture drew tourists to
Santa Fe. Although the city is best known for
its visual arts, as reflected in its nationally
recognized museums and some 200 galleries,
you'll also find opera, chamber music of all
sorts, and vocal music. You'll discover theater,
both homegrown and imported, and a smattering of
dance, including world-famous flamenco. In
recent years an international film festival has
attracted movie fans from throughout the world.
Santa Fe has everything from free performances
to $100-a-ticket extravaganzas and the arts here
encompass the traditional and the modern. [p. 259]
Reviews of Insiders' Guide: Santa Fe, 3rd Edition
"[This] Santa Fe guidebook contains all sorts of
information ranging from the mundane to the
arcane. Just a few of the topics include the
Pueblo casinos, shopping, annual events and
festivals, real estate, the natural environment,
descriptions of the various neighborhoods of
Santa Fe, restaurants of course, vacation
rentals, and much more. Occasional sidebars,
'Insider's Tips,' give helpful hints for
heightened awareness of visitors on various
aspects of life and living in the City
Different. The writing talent distinguishes this
Santa Fe guidebook from all others."
